Hilary Lister suffers from reflex sympathetic dystrophy, only being able to move her head. Despite this in 2005 she became the first disabled person to sail alone across the English Channel, using only pressure straws to steer the boat. In 2009 she became the first disabled woman to sail around Britain, starting in Plymouth and ending in Dover. The journey took her three months to complete. She made history again in 2014 when she and Omani sailor Nashwa al-Kindi sailed the 850 miles from Mumbai to Muscat.
